Futuristic campus in the heart of Madrid
With the opening of the IE Tower, 2021 will be remembered as a historic year for IE University, which is recognized among the top universities in Europe. The new vertical, technological, and sustainable headquarters in the north of Madrid, come in at 180 meters in height, with 35 floors covering 50,000 square meters, and reaffirms Madrid’s position as a leading global educational hub. The IE Tower joins IE University’s current locations in Madrid’s financial district and its historic campus in the 13th century Convent of Santa Cruz la Real located in the World Heritage City of Segovia, just outside of Madrid.
“In today’s circumstances education becomes essential, particularly for the youngsters who are called on to become the architects for a sustainable world”, commented Santiago Iñiguez de Onzoño, President of IE University. “Our new IE Tower is designed as an integrated, safe and inclusive learning space, where students from all continents and cultures will live a unique educational experience”.
Undergraduate students from 140 countries, representing a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures, are spending this academic year at the IE Tower. In addition to their programs, focused on Business, Law, Architecture & Design, Technology, Human Sciences, and Global and Public Affairs, they will work together to promote urban and social transformation initiatives, energize Madrid’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, and develop new projects with multinational firms.
Immersive education
Classrooms in the IE Tower are equipped with the technology that allows for the simultaneous delivery of face-to-face and online sessions. This is part of IE University’s Liquid Learning model and students experience technological immersion through virtual reality and artificial intelligence, for example. The flexible configuration of the buildings 64 classrooms favors interaction amongst students and professors, innovation, and creativity. The space also includes a Venture Lab to accelerate the creation of startups, a FabLab to develop architecture and design projects, and an auditorium with a 600-person capacity. In addition to their studies at the IE Tower, students will enjoy campus life with more than 7,000 square meters of green space and sports facilities that include a heated swimming pool, gymnasium, and sports courts.
